<p>Lately, more and more people have shifted to vegetarian meals because scientific research demonstrated the adverse effects of animal meat.</p>
<p>Nutritionists explain that the high amount of animal fat present in meat, dairy, and other animal products may be probable factors leading to the onset of diabetes mellitus, obesity, colorectal cancer, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease.</p>
<p>To avoid these diseases, nutritionists have long expounded on the health benefits of high intake of fruits and vegetables.</p>
<p>However, people generally have many misconceptions about vegetarianism or the practice of eating foods from the plant kingdom.</p>
<p>This article attempts to clear these misconceptions and bring to light what the said lifestyle is about.</p>
<p>Vegetarians may be classified into four groups. Vegans eat no animal foods, while semi-vegetarians generally avoid meat but consume poultry and selected animal foods.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, lacto-ovo-vegetarians avoid meat, poultry and fish, but take in milk and eggs. Finally, lacto-vegetarians consume milk products but not other animal foods. Some vegetarians also go as far as avoiding clothing made from animal products like fleece, fur, and leather.</p>
<p>More so, others avoid processed foods, alcoholic beverages, and foods bred with pesticides.</p>
<p>Historically, vegetarianism can be traced from philosophical beliefs, specifically religious traditions and teachings of Buddhism and Hinduism.</p>
<p>The said religions shun away from animal flesh due to their doctrine upholding self-denial, reincarnation, and the blessedness of all forms of life.</p>
<p>However, during the 19th century, the practice has transcended religious boundaries when the Vegetarian Society, a British non-religious organization, became famous in 1847.</p>
<p>Modern vegetarians uphold the rejection of meat in their campaign for<strong> animal welfare, labeling the killing of animals for consumption as a violation of their rights</strong>. The practice has already gained worldwide acceptance.</p>
<p>Some people contend that the vegetarian diet is insufficient in meeting the daily nutritional requirements. However, dieticians have explained that plant-based meals are low in cholesterol, saturated fat, and salt.</p>
<p>Likewise, plant-based meals may be planned in order to obtain the essential nutrients normally obtained from meat, fish, and poultry.</p>
<p>Vegetarians may consume diets dominated by fruits, vegetables, cereals and grains. In place of meat products, lacto-ovo-vegetarians may use nuts, lentils, eggs, nuts, peanut butter, dry beans, and peas. Vegetarians avoiding milk may find other sources of calcium and Vitamin D-enriched foods.</p>
<p>Also, vegans may have to take vitamin and mineral supplements to ensure adequate intakes of nutrients that may only be obtained from animal-based meals.</p>

Studies have shown that the foods we eat today do not contain the same level of nutrients as the foods consumed 50 years ago. We need to eat more servings of fruits and vegetables today to get the same amount of nutrients that were in our produce grown 50 years ago.</p>

<p>Doctors used to say that if you eat a healthy, well-balanced diet you will get all of the vitamins and minerals you need. The problem with our modern food supply is that it can no longer provide all of the nutrients we need. <strong>In 2002 the Journal of the American Medical Association recommended that it is prudent for all adults to take nutritional supplements.<br />

There are many reasons why supplementation has become necessary. Crops today are harvested when they are still “green” (not fully ripened) so they can be shipped to the marketplace without spoiling. The fruits and vegetables in your grocery store may look fresh, but it’s likely that they are at least a few days old. (Some out-of-season fruits and vegetables may even be months old if they have been held in cold storage.) Studies have shown that fruits and vegetables begin to lose many if their nutrients when they are picked; the longer it has been since harvest, the more nutrients are lost.</p>
<p>Another reason is that the soil has become depleted of nutrients. Chemical fertilizers put back just enough to make the plants grow and to produce crops. The soils are not replenished with all of the nutrients that are lost.</p>
<p>Organic produce is definitely a better choice nutritionally. Studies have shown that organic produce does contain more nutrients than conventionally grown produce. That is probably because organic farmers understand the importance of healthy soil. They use methods besides chemical fertilizers to ensure the health of their soil and their crops. So you will receive more nutrients in organic produce. </p>
<p>What may be missing in any produce you buy, even organic, are the <strong>phytochemicals.</strong> These phytochemicals, or phytonutrients as they are also known, are not considered essential, but studies have shown that they are extremely beneficial. Many of the antioxidants that you may have been reading about are actually phytochemicals. What the magazine and newspaper articles don’t tell you is that phytochemicals do not develop in the plants unless the fruit or vegetable has been vine-ripened. They develop in the final stages of the ripening process. So unless you grow your own vine-ripened produce or get it from the farmer who picked it ripe today, you are not getting the benefits of phytochemicals from your food.</p>
<p>As for me, I&#8217;ll continue to search for the best quality, natural foods for myself and my family, but I will also make sure we have high-quality supplements to fill in the nutritional gaps. I believe these choices will help insure that I will continue to enjoy good health and the best quality of life as I age.</p>

may look easy, these modified standing yoga poses can be quite challenging. Balancing<br />
helps improve posture, strengthen your core, and sharpen your focus. Breathe into<br />
the pose and free yourself from worries. A focused mind and awareness to<br />
the present are vital in performing these various balance poses. To start with, here<br />
are simple moves to master:</p>
<p>The Leg Lift<br />
For your initial pose, plant your left foot on the floor<br />
and place your left hand on your left hip. Bend your right leg and gently hold your<br />
right knee with your right hand. Keep this up for five full breaths. If you want to<br />
take it up a notch, bring your bent leg to the side. Hold for another five breaths,<br />
and then bring your leg to the front and place it back down on the floor. Repeat this<br />
very same process with your other leg.</p>
<p>The Tree<br />
For your starting pose, raise your right foot and place it on your left inner<br />
thigh. Bring your hands to prayer position at your chest and hold for five<br />
breaths, while keeping your balance. To take it up a notch and give<br />
yourself a real challenge, extend both arms above your head while keeping your<br />
prayer position. Make sure to keep your shoulders down and away from your ears, and<br />
your chest lifted. Allow five full breaths once more, then lower your arms and bent<br />
leg, and then switch sides.</p>
<p>One Foot with Extended Leg<br />
To start with, place your hands on your hips and make sure your body is straight,<br />
shoulder pulled down, and chest lifted. To up the ante and go a bit further, lift<br />
your left leg, and concentrate on keeping the weight on your standing leg. If<br />
this is too easy for you, bring your lifted leg higher. Hold for five breaths, then<br />
repeat the process with the other leg.</p>
<p>There are also other things you can do. To help you get a sexier rear,<br />
follow a smart diet, take a 30-minute daily walk or engage in some other cardio<br />
exercise, and do a toning workout in the comfort of your very own home on a regular<br />
basis. Of course, it also helps to gear up. When you’re working out and getting bored,<br />
try bringing your mp3 player. Tune in to your favorite music, and exercising won’t<br />
seem like any trouble at home. In fact, you may even look forward to your next workout<br />
schedule. Be a workout genius with a sports sensor built into your shoes. This can<br />
actually be your own personal gym DJ. The sensor tracks how you run, so it can also<br />
choose the songs to match your pace. This mini-trainer also gives you the proper<br />
feedback in the form of time, distance, pace, and calories burned, during and after<br />
you run. Having all these in your gym bag could actually make exercise seem like<br />
playtime.</p>

<p>The recipe ebook is chock full of recipes and skin care tips. In addition, the book is charming and delightful to read and occasionally whimsical. A recipe for a facial mask for a special occasion, in this particular case Halloween, is entitled &#8220;Witches Brew,&#8221; and, among other things, calls for &#8220;10 of your best dragon tears, (fresh cranberries can be substituted if necessary&#8221;!) </p>
<p>I love it! </p>
<p>I find the recipes fun and easy to make and, more importantly, they save a great deal of money: instead of buying expensive products, I make them myself!</p>
