Retinol is a form of vitamin A and is very essential as a dietary supplement. Due to numerous benefits of vitamin A when it comes to health and skin care, retinol is also not far behind when it comes to the world of cosmetics and beauty products. It is an essential substance for maintaining and producing cells, bone development and a healthy vision. Retinol is also loaded with antioxidant properties that are very useful for skin care and detoxification. Antioxidants resist skin damage and help in removing dead skin cells and making way for the newer and healthier skin cells. Due to the same, there is a huge significance of retinol in the field of acne prevention and removal. Retinol face creams are the best anti aging creams and are very good for facial skin care.
Benefits of Retinol Face Cream
Facial skin care ranks high in the list of beauty priorities for many people and why shouldn’t it be? There are many things that can harm the structure and texture of the facial skin. Culprits like ultraviolet rays, dust, heat, pollution and stress are a few to name, that simply ruin the softness of the skin and lead to many skin problems like acne, dry skin, rough skin, oily skin and wrinkles. In fact it is the safest to use a retinol face cream for acne, in case of a sudden breakout. To stop all this, there is a constant need of a good quality face cream that can provide maximum benefits and least side effects. Retinol face creams belong to that category. Read more on retinol for acne.
There are a lot of cosmetics that claim to be the best skin care products. In these times of utter commercialization, one finds a bit of relief in the form of retinol face cream. Retinol face cream improves skin appearance and makes the skin glow (this time, the real one!). Antioxidant properties in the retinol creams protect skin from cell damage, effects of aging like wrinkles, dark spots, etc. by controlling movements of the free radicals present in the blood stream.
Biggest benefit of retinol face cream is that it actually stimulates the process of repairing collagen and elastin that are present in the skin cells, without causing potential damage and irritation to the skin. A few other products that are present in retinol actually work wonders for the skin, when used in moderation and in correct formulation, over the affected area. It is very necessary to use retinol face cream in moderation and for a shorter period of time, strictly. Read more on wrinkle free skin care.

There are some amazing ingredients hitting the market for wrinkle cure and anti-aging skin care products today. If you are just now starting to worry about preventing or eliminating wrinkles or are wondering if the product you currently use needs to be updated, you have to check out some of these new ingredients and see what they have to offer.
Phytessence Wakame
This is special Japanese sea kelp that has been proven to do two very important things for facial skin: increase levels of hyaluronic acid and help maintain appropriate moisture levels.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural part of young skin which works in union with collagen and elastin to keep the skin firm and in place. With age, all three of these natural skin components start to wear away. Science is working hard to find cost effective, natural ingredients which can stimulate the production of these three skin essentials. Japanese sea kelp has proven the most efficient at naturally increasing hyaluronic acid levels.
Of course, keeping moisture in the skin is important as well, especially for people who have a tendency toward dry or flaky skin. This ingredient keeps skin tight, soft, and smooth.
Cynergy TK
This is another product that helps moisten the skin, but it is most well known as an amazing way to keep that youthful, glowing appearance to the skin. It actually stimulates the body to produce more young skin cells, keeping that youthful glow literally occurring from the inside out as it was meant to be!
CoEnzymeQ10
We are talking specifically about a special form of this ingredient known as Nano-Lipobelle H Q10. It is known to go extremely deep into the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.
Remember, collagen and elastin are natural parts of the skin that work with hyaluronic acid to keep the skin tight and in place. Since they all three need to be replenished as you get older, CoenzymeQ10 combined with Japanese sea kelp makes for very powerful wrinkle cure and anti-aging skin care products.
Since collagen cannot effectively be drawn into the body through the top of the skin, a wrinkle cure and anti-aging skin care product line that includes this ingredient is absolutely essential.
It may be kind of difficult to find wrinkle cure and anti-aging skin care products that include all of these ingredients, but one to consider is called Extend-Life.

Are You Stressing Your Hormones?
By: Dr. Loretta Lanphier, ND, CN, HHP
Creating health during menopause is every woman’s goal. We are led to believe estrogen—or lack of it—is the cause of menopause symptoms. In this article, I want to clarify that this is not the primary hormone produced by the ovaries. Ovaries also produce androgens, such as DHEA and testosterone, as well as progesterone. Total well being depends on adequate levels of these hormones.
Organs and body sites other than just ovaries, produce androgenic hormones. These include adrenal glands, the skin, muscles, brain, pineal gland, hair follicles, and body fat. As the hormone production decreases in the ovaries, the production of androgenic hormones increases from these other sources. It’s clear, healthy women are well equipped to handle hormone changes, not requiring hormone replacement. Approximately 15% of women are symptom free.
If you approach menopause in a state of emotional and nutritional depletion that has affected optional adrenal function, you will need hormonal, nutritional, emotional, and other support during the menopause transition until your endocrine balance is restored.
Symptoms of Adrenal Stress
Are you experiencing menopause symptoms? If so, your underlying problem may be adrenal stress. The most common symptoms of adrenal stress are:
Alcohol intolerance
Alternating diarrhea and constipation
Apprehension
Auto-immune diseases
Auto-immune hepatitis
Craving for sweets
Difficulty building muscle
Difficulty gaining weight
Dizziness that occurs upon standing
Dry and thin skin
Excessive hunger
Feelings of frustration
Food and/or inhalant allergies
Headaches
Hypoglycemia
Inability to concentrate
Indigestion
Insomnia
Irritability
Lightheadedness
Low blood pressure
Low body temperature
Mental depression
Moments of confusion
Nervousness
Osteoporosis
Palpitations [heart fluttering]
PMS
Poor memory
Poor resistance to infections
Scanty perspiration
Tendency towards inflammation
Unexplained hair loss
Weakness
Factors in Creating Adrenal Stress
When your body is stressed at sustained high levels, the over production of the hormone cortisol, produced by the adrenals, gradually tears your body down. It destroys healthy muscle and bone; slows down healing and normal cell replacement; co-opts biochemicals needed to make other vital hormones; impairs digestion, metabolism and mental function; interferes with healthy endocrine function; and weakens your immune system.
Common causes of adrenal stress include:
Anger
Chronic illness
Chronic infection
Chronic inflammation
Chronic pain
Chronic-severe allergies
Depression
Excessive exercise
Fear
Going to sleep late
Guilt
Hypoglycemia
Light-cycle disruption
Malabsorption
Maldigestion
Nutritional deficiencies
Overwork/ physical or mental strain
Sleep deprivation
Surgery
Temperature extremes
Toxic exposure
Trauma/injury
Worry/anxiety
Restoring Adrenal Health
It’s important to emphasize the role of emotional factors. Guilt, pain from past hurts, self-destructive habits, unresolved relationship problems—your past and present emotional experience may serve as an ever-present stressor. Dealing with these problems directly is much more beneficial than trying to compensate for the stress they create.
Conventional medicine’s focus on drugs tends to suppress early-stage symptoms rather than treat their underlying causes. This can have the effect of delaying treatment until a disease state has developed.
You can restore your adrenal health by the following actions:
Think positive thoughts. If a problem starts to tug at your thoughts or emotions, look on the bright side. See everything as a learning experience not a message that you have messed up or are defective in any way. Learn to not take on other people’s problems. Find a favorite affirmation book or calendar to remind you each day of something positive.
Making dietary changes to enrich your nutrition and reduce carbohydrates and stimulants. We recommend the addition of high-quality nutritional supplements, including essential fatty acids from fish oil, organic & unrefined coconut oil or organic, unrefined hemp oil.
Reducing stress includes meditation, moderate exercise, and taking more time for you. It’s helpful to make a list of your stressors, especially those that are constant. If needed, make lifestyle and/or friendship changes to get out of the stress track.
Getting more rest. Your body needs time to heal. The body does the most healing between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. If you are up during these times you are robbing your body of the natural healing process.
Accepting nurturing and positive feedback from those around you. Getting a pet can do wonders in this area.
Making a list of priorities and let the rest go. Don’t try to be Wonder Woman.
Using herbs, aromatherapy, acupuncture, and massage is helpful.
Consider natural hormonal support.

Eat to Look Great
You are what you eat, right? This is probably one of the oldest phrases in the English language, but it still remains true. What you eat will not only end up on your hips, but it will make an appearance on your face as well! It turns out there are quite a few foods that help prevent wrinkles, and they are not as distasteful or boring as you may think.
It is true that most of the foods that are really good for the human body are anything but appetizing. Yet, when it comes to foods that prevent wrinkles and keep the skin youthful and radiant, the common foods on this list are quite delicious. Even better, they are easily found in your local supermarket and you probably already eat some of them from time to time.
Antioxidants
You have probably heard a lot about the benefits of getting antioxidants into the body for weight loss and overall health benefits, but this is one of the best things you can do for your skin as well. Most of the foods that help prevent wrinkles happen to be very rich in antioxidants of some sort, which will help nourish and replenish the skin so it fights off the signs of aging such as wrinkles, lines, sagging, and sun spots.
Some of the most common foods that prevent wrinkles by pumping your body full of antioxidants include:
* Leafy green vegetables such as spinach and kale
* Dark orange colored vegetables such as carrots, orange peppers, and squash
* Dark, rich colored berries such as blueberries, raspberries, and dark purple grapes
* Tomatoes
These foods that help prevent wrinkles get their power from their rich colors and tend to be more powerful when eaten raw. The only exception is tomatoes, which tend to have more antioxidants after cooking.
Healthy Fats
It doesn’t seem like fat would be anywhere near a list of healthy foods that help prevent wrinkles, but every organ in the body relies upon fat sources to function properly. That includes the skin!
The trick is to eat healthy fats which do not clog your arteries and leave a greasy fill over your pores. Some of the healthy foods that prevent wrinkles by providing essential fats include:
* Salmon
* Almonds
* Olive Oil
Salmon in particular is one of the most beneficial foods that help prevent wrinkles because it also combats a variety of other problems within the body.
The best tip you can ever receive for keeping your skin tight, youthful and blemish free is to take care of your body as a whole. Get in shape, eat for nourishment not satisfaction, and you will not only have clear skin, but you will feel your best as well.

What Causes Bad Breath ?
Bad breath, commonly referred to as halitosis, which usually originates from one of two sources – certain foods we eat or the breakdown of food particles by bacteria which inhabit the mouth.
Foods
We have all probably experienced halitosis caused by eating certain foods. We eat a meal and then suffer with embarrassing bad breath later.
The culprits are sulfur compounds found in certain foods like garlic and cabbage. These sulfur compounds cause breathe to smell bad.
When we eat, sulfur compounds from foods are absorbed by our digestive systems. Contrary to popular belief, sulfur compounds do not cause halitosis as a result of working their way back up into the mouth from the stomach. Rather, the sulfur compounds move from the digestive system into the bloodstream where they are carried to the lungs.
Here the lungs expel the sulfur compounds from the body by way of the air that we exhale! Amazingly, many of these sulfur compounds are also excreted in sweat from the skin and in urine for hours to even days after the food containing them is eaten.
Bacteria
Chronic bad breath is constant and long standing. Although a little harder to treat, it can be treated nevertheless.
The problem starts with bacteria. Did you know that over 170 different types of bacteria live in our mouths?
These bacteria feed on bits of food left on our teeth after meals. Feasting on these “leftovers”, bacteria produce sulfur compounds which once again give breath its foul smell.
Many of these bacteria are anaerobic meaning that they can not live in the presence of oxygen. How do they live in the mouth which is exposed to oxygen every time we breathe?
These bacteria hide in places where oxygen can not reach – under plaque and food debris, in the spaces between the teeth and gums, and in the deep crevices of the tongue.
This is why proper dental care is important in eliminating bad breath. Brushing and flossing:
Remove bacteria from the mouth.
Remove the layer of plaque, food debris, and dead cells which protect bacteria from oxygen.
Saliva – Nature’s Mouthwash
A very important fact to remember when battling bad breath is that saliva is our friend. A dry mouth represents the perfect environment for odor causing bacteria.
Saliva acts as nature’s mouthwash by keeping the mouth moist, washing away bacteria, and dissolving foul smelling volatile sulfur compounds.
Conditions which reduce saliva flow or which make our mouth dry can therefore lead to halitosis. In fact, the morning breath which many people experience after a long night of sleep is caused by the reduction in saliva flow that occurs when we sleep.
People often combat chronic bad breath using mouthwash as their weapon of choice. Ironically, most commercial mouthwashes are useless in eliminating chronic bad breath. Recent studies have reported that mouthwashes only temporarily mask the odor of bad breath for as little as 10 minutes after brushing.
In fact, because they contain alcohol, mouthwashes can actually make the situation worse by drying out the mouth creating a more hospitable environment for odor causing bacteria. A new breed of mouthwashes containing chlorine dioxide, however, have proven very effective in combating bad breath.
These mouthwashes do not mask bad breath odor like conventional mouth washes. Instead, the chlorine dioxide in these rinses directly attacks the volatile sulfur compounds responsible for halitosis
Periodontal Disease
If you try:
* Staying away from certain foods that are known to cause bad breath,
* Removing bacteria and food particles by brushing your teeth and flossing,
* Removing bacteria from the tongue,
* Making sure that your mouth does not become too dry (maintaining saliva flow),
…and still have bad breath, you may want to see your dentist. Your dentist should be able to detect these periodontal pockets during a routine gum exam.
These areas are difficult to keep clean and may create a continuous supply of sulfur gases. The more areas that you have harboring these bacteria, the worse the breath.

Natural Progesterone – Just The Facts, Please
By: Dr. Loretta Lanphier, ND, CN, HHP
Sixty years ago, progesterone was found to be the main hormone produced by the ovaries. Since it was necessary for fertility, and for maintaining a healthy pregnancy, it was called the “pro-gestational hormone.” It’s the most protective hormone the body produces, and the large amounts that are produced during pregnancy result from the developing baby’s need for protection from the stressful environment. Normally, the brain contains a very high concentration of progesterone, reflecting its protective function for that most important organ. The thymus gland, the key organ of our immune system, is also profoundly dependent on progesterone.
Research Results
In experiments, progesterone was found to be the basic hormone of adaptation and of resistance to stress. The adrenal glands use it to produce anti-stress hormones, and when there is enough progesterone, the adrenals don’t have to produce the potentially harmful steroid cortisone. During progesterone deficiency, which occurs most frequently during long term stressful situations, menopause, PMS and andropause, the body produces too much cortisone. Excessive cortisone causes osteoporosis, aging of the skin, damage to brain cells, and the accumulation of fat, especially on the back and abdomen.
To name a few benefits outside of pregnancy that this hormone offers the body, experiments have shown that progesterone:
Relieves anxiety
Improves memory
Protects brain cells
Prevents epileptic seizures
Promotes respiration
Corrects emphysema
Prevents bulging veins by increasing the tone of blood vessels
Improves the efficiency of the heart
Reverses many of the signs of aging in the skin
Promotes healthy bone growth
Relieves many types of arthritis
Helps a variety of immunological problems
Stimulates bone-building and helps protect against osteoporosis
Alleviates mood swings
This list only names a few benefits. There are many, many more discussed in additional articles at www.pms-menopause-progesteronr.org
Need for Progesterone
Progesterone is needed in HRT for many reasons, but one of its most important roles is to balance or oppose the effects of estrogen. Unopposed estrogen creates a strong risk for breast cancer and reproductive cancers. Estrogen levels drop just enough to stop the menstrual cycle while progesterone levels may drop to near zero in some women.
Because progesterone is the precursor to so many other steroid hormones, its use can greatly enhance overall hormone balance. Natural progesterone is safe and non-toxic. It helps to balance the effects of estrogen, and has a calming effect on the nervous system.
Caution
Beware of products that are synthetic and make statements that they are similar to natural or derived naturally. If they are patented, they are synthetic, and can be harmful to the body. If you are on HRT that is not natural progesterone only, you may be ingesting harmful estrogens into your system and causing long-term health risks. You can slowly decrease this program and go on natural progesterone, under supervision of a health care provider. Be sure under any condition concerning hormones, your hormones are completely tested, not just one or two, to determine whether your hormones are imbalanced or not, and to what degree.

Using Progesterone
Hormone levels can be tested with a simple and inexpensive saliva test you can even take at home. The use of natural progesterone in combination with lifestyle changes often improves symptoms and general health.
Women using natural progesterone should have their progesterone levels checked yearly. Progesterone can build up in the system. What we are working towards is hormonal “balance,” not just shifting from one hormonal over-load to another. This is why it is always good to seek out advice from a trusted healthcare professional and to test the hormones.
Be Proactive
You can find out more about progesterone in my eBook, Balancing Your Hormones Without Drugs…You Can Feel Good Again.
Take responsibility for your health. Practice prevention. Ultimately, YOU are the one in charge and the only one who can make the necessary changes.
